Start your own
Shape Shifters Group™
or find an existing group near you!
Thanks for your interest
in Shape Shifters group meetings. Discussing this process
with like-minded people really helps you to stay on track. That's
why Lisa started Shape Shifters Groups. If you'd like to
start up a group in your area, let us know and we'll help you get it
off the ground. After all, we can't start the groups without you!
Being a part
of a Shape Shifters Group is extremely helpful if you're
serious about creating change in your life. You already
know how hard it is to begin any life overhaul without
support from family and friends. How many times have you
dieted only to hear from them, "Oh, you can break your
diet just this once. It's a special occasion!" They
think they're being friendly, but they are actually
undermining your commitment to change.
In a Shape
Shifters Group, you'll have that support from people who
want to know more about body/mind/spirit weight
balancing (or other goal achievement). You'll have
people with whom to discuss concepts and compare notes.
And you'll have your own team of cheerleaders!
What
are the advantages to starting a group?
If there are
no Shape Shifters Groups in your area and you are
thinking about perhaps taking on the task yourself, you
are much appreciated by the Shape Shifting team.
Therefore, assistance is here for you.
Let us know about you!

What is a Shape Shifters Group?
This
is the most fun you’ll ever have reclaiming your perfect body.
You’ll walk out of a Shape Shifters meeting feeling pumped up,
motivated and ready to take on another week. The best way to do that
is to focus on the positive. You are encouraged to share your
success stories and to act as cheerleaders for each other.
The
Shape Shifting process is broken down into five basic
components: Challenges, Makeovers, Triumphs,
Intentions
and
Epiphanies, which are logged in your Shape Shifters Daily
Diary.
-
Challenges—things we’d like to change
-
Intentions—positive
statements of intent to transform this week’s Challenges
-
Triumphs—positive results we’ve seen from last week’s Challenges
-
Makeovers—little things we do to make ourselves feel or look better
-
Epiphanies—breakthroughs
that we've made that week
Here's how it works: Shape
Shifting--reclaiming your perfect body is required reading, and
groups can purchase them at a group rate. You'll
understand why, once you start working with a group, because it's
really hard to explain to someone who just shows up and hasn't read
it. This is, in essence, an interactive book study group, and people
who don't read the book won't have a clue what's going on.
The Shape Shifter's
Daily Diary is also required, and groups can purchase them at a
group rate. Each week, group members take turns reporting what
they've accomplished and discussing any Challenges they might like
feedback on or help with. The first part of the meeting is
structured, with each member allowed a designated number of minutes
to have the floor,* with no interruption* (except for feedback, if
requested). The second part of the meeting is freeflow conversation
* Group
leaders may define how long each member may speak
depending on the number of attendees and time allotted
for the meeting. Bringing a timer to group meetings is
strongly recommended to keep everyone on topic.
A little extra info on how to start your own local
group...
Tell your friends
about the book and gather a few people who are interested in doing
this together, or advertise in your local New Age or entertainment
magazine, hang a flyer in your local New Age and health food stores,
etc. List your group meeting on Craigslist,
MySpace, Meetup,
or any other places that allow this type of listing.
Find a place to
meet: someone's house, a community rec room, or see if your
Unitarian Universalist or Unity Church has a space you can use. Even
your public library will sometimes have space to use for a
book study group.
If you're having a hard
time getting people to sit down and read the book (people's lives
are so busy these days!) direct them to this
article that explains the very basics of the Shape Shifting
process, so they can see if it would be something that might
interest them.
The ideal group size is
4-8 people, but you can certainly start a group with only two if
that's the way it feels best to you. It will grow as you become more
confident and feel comfortable inviting others to join. The length
of the meeting should allow enough time for everyone to have about
10 minutes or so to speak. Therefore, a six-person meeting should be
about 90 minutes long, to allow enough time to settle in and wrap
up, in addition to everyone's 10 minutes.
Group leaders may define
how long each member may speak depending on the number of attendees
and time allotted for the meeting. Bringing a timer to group
meetings is strongly recommended to keep everyone on topic. Until
everyone gets the hang of how this works, it's something a challenge
to keep some people from interrupting while someone is talking.
Whomever has the floor holds the timer while they are speaking. That
way everyone stays within their time, and only those who hold the
timer are allowed to speak without permission.
If your group is growing
too large to allow for a 90 minute meeting, then split into two
smaller groups. You can still use the same space, if desired; just
form two circles.
These are the basics on
how to start your own Shape Shifters Group. If you have any
questions at all, please don't be afraid to ask!
It's what we're here for! And, be sure to let us know about your
group!
